EarlyWord for Today
CHEAP CAMERAS, GOOD IMAGES
The Akron Art Museum is having a photography contest, with a catch. Photos are to depict life in Northeast Ohio. Only low-fidelity plastic toy cameras are permitted. Cool idea! Hundreds of us who can’t afford, and don’t know how to use, expensive equipment can now enter a photography contest!
Maybe Jesus saw his world through a low-fidelity plastic toy camera. He saw ordinary working people and invited them to be disciples. He saw outcasts and healed their diseases. He saw people under judgment and gave them forgiveness and freedom. Hundreds of people who couldn’t afford, and didn’t know how to claim, places of high standing were invited into Jesus’ circle of friends.
The photography contest will produce some surprising images. So did Jesus’ ministry. It still does.
